The Widowmaker.  Taking in the outer jib on the Clan Macleod.

Working in heavy weather and big seas, out on the long jibbooms of sailing vessels was considered by seamen to be the most dangerous job in a dangerous calling.  For this reason the spar was often termed "The Widowmaker".
